In Memory

Robert Ivie - Class Of 1977

On Sept. 14, 2012, at the age of 53, our favorite cowboy, husband, dad, brother, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Robert Lee Ivie, along with his favorite horse, Olie, and best dog, Sandy, passed away due to injuries sustained in a roll-over in the West Fork area, near Hanna, Utah.
He was born June 29, 1959, in Salt Lake City, to Glen and Elva Wilson Ivie. Much of his youth was spent on the Strawberry River. He loved playing baseball, which is where his nickname "Bubble Gum" came from. He also loved rodeo, riding bulls and bareback horses. He was a Utah State high school wrestling champion, winning by referees' decision after double overtime.
He married his high school darlin', Linda Remund, on March 24, 1978, in Duchesne. They built a home on a small farm east of Duchesne where they raised their three children. For the last eighteen years he worked for the Utah Department of Agriculture trapping and hunting predators that threatened livestock. In the summer months he spent most of his time in the mountains, and in the winter months he loved aerial gunning out of helicopters and airplanes. He protected rancher's livestock as if they were his own. His skills earned him the "Trapper of the Year" award.
Robert made friends wherever he went, and was loved by many. He enjoyed helping others work and roundup their cattle. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being a cowboy. When in the city kids would point and say as he passed, "Look mom, it's a real cowboy." He was a fun grandpa, he was a big tease, and gave all his grandkids and many others nicknames. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Robert is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Shane (Liz) Ivie, both of Duchesne; Shayla (Cory) McNeill, Vernal; Tiffany (Brandon) Roll, Duchesne; grandchildren, Sage "Sagebrush" and McKenzie; Colton "Bronc," Breann "Breezy," Harlee "Boom Boom," Leah "Trixie," Stratton "Grandpa," Cooper "Chicken," Presley "Prescious" Presley (usually "PP" for short); great-grandchild, Kail; brothers and sisters, Ron (Pat) Ivie, Benjamin, Utah; Rex Ivie, Rock Springs, Wyo.; Joyce (Garrold) Larsen, Roosevelt; Judy (Terry) Wolfe, Tooele; Randy (Cherrie) Ivie, Richard (Tammy) Ivie, Duchesne; Janette (Dennis) Putnam, Tooele; Roland (Lara) Ivie, Neola, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Elva, and a sister and brother-in-law JoAnn and Dewain Coil.
Funeral services will be held on Tues., Sept. 18 at 11 a.m., at the Duchesne LDS Stake Center where a viewing that morning from 9:30-10:45 a.m.

Brook B. (Petersen) (1978)

Robert.  One very sweet man who enhanced the lives of so many.  What a wonderful human being.  I was glad to have been back in touch once again, even if it was just a few emails each year.

The painful void now felt by those closest to you,  will swell with great memories, big smiles, fond stories and much laughter.  I only need to look at the family photos to know how much your life meant.  They will keep you alive forever in their hearts. Good bye, Robert.
